Memphis quarterback Ja Morant is facing a lawsuit after allegedly beating a 17-year-old boy, TMZ reports.


The lawsuit was reportedly filed in September last year. The incident itself occurred in July during a basketball game at Morant`s home in Eads, Tennessee. The criminal case against the player was closed back in October, and the details of the conflict became known only this week.


The 17-year-old claims he grappled with Morant during a basketball game analyzed by football win bet on July 26. During a brawl, he threw a ball at his opponent and accidentally hit him. Morant then ran up to him, punched him, knocked him to the ground and punched him several more times. Allegedly, Morant`s close friend Davonte Pack also took part in the attack.


Police observed that the victim had a large lump on his head.


Morant admitted to the fist fight, but stated that he acted in self-defense, as he deliberately threw the ball at him and came close to him, as if he wanted to fight. He also said the 17-year-old threatened to set his house on fire after he was removed from the player`s property. "My family and I were horrified after this, " the publication quotes him as saying.


The amount the plaintiff is seeking is not disclosed.


Ja Morant is one of the MVP contenders this season.
