Mercedes chief executive Toto Wolff admitted that the team could have made a mistake in choosing a strategy for the Mexican Grand Prix.


Mercedes initially decided to go for a one-stop tactic, starting on medium with a further transition to hard. In Red Bull, they chose to start on the soft with the transition to the medium and the second pit stop in the future.


However, over the course of the race, it turned out that the medium tires hardly wear out, while the hard tires, which both Hamilton and Russell complained about, did not provide good grip.


It`s always easier to think in hindsight, but the medium-hard one-stop strategy option seemed right. How well the medium ended up keeping his distance came as a surprise. Restart the race now - maybe we would have chosen a different strategy, - Wolff said.
